BIAL’s policy for corporate responsibility is an integral part of the company’s management practices and dictates the relationship with our various stakeholders. It involves several areas: quality and environmental protection, initiatives to promote/support scientific research, collaboration with patient associations, educational programmes and signing up for humanitarian causes and social organisations throughout the world.

The therapeutic needs’ satisfaction of our patients, the satisfaction of the health professionals, our clients, workers and shareholders is one of the values of BIAL’s culture.

We all work towards this goal.

We see Quality as everyone’s responsibility. Its improvement must be constantly pursued and worked on, as it is central to achieving our goals.

The Health, the Safety and the Environment are an intrinsic part of our commitments. The strategies and efforts at development and the optimization of our processes, products and services takes in to account the respect for the Environment and by all those who live in it.

The commitments will be fulfilled, throughout the company, by adhering to the following principles:

  • Guaranteeing the quality and safety of the drugs produced, in accord with the Health, the Safety of employees and with the Environment;
  • Complying with the utmost rigour with the regulatory, technical and normative requirements that apply to our activity, and others to which BIAL subscribes;

CODE OF ETHICS AND CONDUCT

To work according to high ethical standards has always been part of BIAL’s DNA. Only in this way can we earn the trust and respect of the healthcare professionals, patients and of the society in general, having as our pillars the quality, safety and efficacy of the products we commercialize.

BIAL’s Code of Conduct has been elaborated to highlight the ethical principles that govern BIAL and the relationships with all our partners.

EFPIA DISCLOSURE CODE

What is the EFPIA Disclosure Code?

The EFPIA Disclosure Code is a code of conduct that requires all EFPIA member companies and companies that are members of EFPIA member associations to disclose transfers of value to HCPs and healthcare organisations (HCOs). Under the Code, EFPIA member companies, such as BIAL, will have to disclose the names of healthcare professionals and organisations that have received payments or other transfers of value from them.

In recognition of BIAL's commitment to research and development, the group is a member of the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA), the respected federation of leading research firms in the European pharmaceutical sector.

We at BIAL, and according to our Transparency policy, confirm that our disclosures of transfers of value to HCPs and HCOs have been reported in the application of the EFPIA Disclosure Code key principles and of the local legislation.

 

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

We are aiming to build a world that is healthier, a world that is better for everyone. 
BIAL interacts with many other bodies and institutions which want to achieve the sustained development of the planet and the construction of a fairer and more responsible society.

We are a member of the Global Compact. This is an international initiative to promote the sustainable progress of the world economy, uniting companies, governments and civil society. We are also a signatory to "Caring for Climate", a declaration by the member firms of the Global Compact which tries to find solutions for the climate problems afflicting the world.

BIAL is also member of EPIS - Businessmen for Social Inclusion -, which action is focused on education, with special emphasis on tackling failure and dropping out of school.

We are also actively engaged in supporting a number of humanitarian and social causes. BIAL cooperates with a range of institutions on a yearly basis - hospitals, schools, universities, medical groups and patients' associations - which work to educate, raise awareness in, develop, and foster the wellbeing of society in general.

PRIVACY AND PERSONAL DATA PROTECTION

BIAL recognizes the importance of privacy and the protection of the rights of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and the free movement of such data.

Under the highest ethical and legal standards, BIAL governs its activity through a set of commitments according to which personal data processing must always be processed in a transparent manner and in strict respect for privacy, as well as rights, freedoms and guarantees:

Lawfulness, Fairness and Transparency: Personal data will always be processed lawfully, fairly and in a transparent manner in relation to the data subject.

Purpose limitationPersonal data will only be collected for specified, explicit and legitimate purposes and not further processed in a manner that is incompatible with those purposes.

MinimizationPersonal data shall be adequate, relevant and limited to what is necessary in relation to the purposes for which they are processed.

Accuracy: Personal data shall be accurate and, where necessary, kept up-to-date. Appropriate measures will be taken to ensure that inaccurate data, having regard to the purposes for which they are processed, are erased or rectified.

Storage limitation: Personal data will be kept in a form which permits identification of data subjects for no longer than is necessary for the purposes for which they are processed.

Integrity and Confidentiality: Personal data will be processed in a manner that ensures appropriate security, including the protection against its unauthorized or unlawful processing and against accidental loss, destruction or damage, using appropriate technical or organizational measures.

Responsibility: The above commitments apply to all personal data processing carried out by BIAL Group employees.

BIAL appointed a Data Protection Officer (DPO) responsible for informing and advising the Group companies and their employees, monitoring the compliance of data processing with applicable policies, procedures and legislation, and acting as a contact point with data subjects and the data protection authority.

Compliance with the applicable privacy and data protection policies, procedures and legislation is subject to constant monitoring and is complemented by a solid awareness and training program for all BIAL Group employees.
